AARP Urges Passage Of Bennet Amendment To Protect Medicare Benefits
AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond released this statement today in support of Sen. Michael Bennet’s (D-CO) amendment to protect Medicare benefits in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
“Sen. Bennet’s amendment should finally put to rest the falsehoods surrounding Medicare benefits under health care reform. This amendment is definitive proof that 45 million Americans in Medicare will continue to receive all of the guaranteed benefits that they rely on. We strongly urge every senator who wants to protect his or her constituents in Medicare to support this amendment this afternoon.
“While we have not endorsed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, AARP strongly believes health care reform must continue to move forward. We will continue to work with senators from both sides of the aisle to strengthen this bill to make health care and prescription drugs more affordable for our members and all older Americans. That means completely closing the dangerous gap in Medicare drug coverage known as the doughnut hole and putting strict limits on health insurance companies’ age discrimination practices.
“We look forward to a productive debate over the coming weeks to move the Senate bill forward and finally fix our broken health care system.”
